Content Optimization for SEO Beginners in Nigeria

The aim of content optimization is to ensure that the user’s satisfaction is met by providing not just quality content but also comprehensive content that is easy to read and understand. It should be properly broken down and utilize various forms of media such as videos, audio, infographics, diagrams, and charts to emphasize your point. Furthermore, your content should align with the searcher’s intent, meaning that it should be able to offer a solution to whatever the searcher is looking for.

In this article, I will be discussing two types of rules- general rules and specific rules. General rules apply to the optimization of all kinds of content, whereas specific rules are designed for a particular type of content and its intended audience.

General rules;

Write short sentences: Long sentences can overwhelm readers.

Prioritize best information: Valuable and best information should be placed at the top.

Use specific points: This is giving out information with numbers. Including numbers increases credibility and reputation.

Use Visuals like infographics to make comparisons and summarise information which may be a little bit hard to understand.

Use Images: Include relevant images to make your post more reader-friendly.

Target Keywords ( keywords you want to rank for) should naturally be placed in the first paragraph, this helps reinforce what your content is about. However, be sure to avoid keyword stuffing.

Keyword stuffing is the practice of overusing target keywords in content, which can negatively affect its quality and website ranking.

Include expert quotes when necessary: Unique quotes from experts in the subject matter increase trustworthiness and credibility.

Make multimedia content: Your content shouldn’t be only words, spice it up with diagrams, charts, images, videos, audio, etc where necessary.

Use semantic keywords: These are words or phrases closely related to your main keywords. Your main keyword can be credit cards, you have words related to it (semantic words) like money, transaction, credit score, interest rate, etc.

Internal linking: linking a page to another relevant page of your website can be helpful if it provides additional information that users might find useful.

Table of contents: Makes it easy for readers to navigate and tells the readers the list of topics covered.

Use descriptive subheadings and use a font that is easy to read.

Avoid using big words for easier understanding

Specific rules;

Here, you look at the top 8-10 site pages that appear when you search for the keyword you want to use. Then, consider these factors;

  • Are they image-packed, as well as the way the images are placed
  • Do they use video snippets (short videos)
  • Are the contents in a step-by-step format
  • Is it How-to guides (informational posts)
  • Are they in listing format (which often shows that comparisons are made)
  • What was added to the keywords to make the content more compelling or showcase its benefit e.g. 2024 (shows freshness), affordable, free shipping, etc.

Properly arranging your content can make it easily accessible and enjoyable for your target audience.
